The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) provides a written exam that leads to the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) designation. To be eligible for the test a person must graduate from a two-year program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) of the American Medical Association. If you have enjoyed biology, chemistry, and computer classes in high school, you have a good start toward becoming a medical records technician.
