Licensing requirements for social work vary from state to state. Typical scenarios to obtain Social Work License include a bachelors degree in a behavioral science and one year of qualifying experience (SWA), with experience under the supervision of a licensed social worker; a bachelors degree in social work (LSW) from a CSWE accredited university; a masters degree in social work (LMSW) from a CSWE accredited university; three years of full-time experience in a clinical social work (ACP) position after completion of the qualifications for licensure as a LMSW with two of the years under the supervision of a LMSW-ACP; three years of full-time experience in a non-clinical social work (AP) position after completion of the qualifications for licensure as a LMSW with two of the years under the supervision of an LMSW-AP or LMSW-ACP.
