Surgical Technology

Surgical Technology programs teach the skills required to be a highly valued member of a surgical team

Surgical Technologists are usually employed by hospitals and work side by side with doctors and nurses in operating and delivery rooms. They are responsible for ensuring that instruments are properly prepared for surgery and make the handoffs to surgeons, as well as making sure that supplies are adequately stocked, the operating room and associated equipment is set up properly, and the sterilized table and instrument trays have been prepared correctly. In Surgical Technology school you will learn the ins and outs of the requirements for surgical procedures. You will learn the critical aspects of surgical asepsis before, during, and after surgical procedures. Other areas covered include education on instrument sets, the ability to easily and knowledgably position patients, the set up of the mayo and back tables, and how to function as an effective member of the surgical team. We have compiled a directory of accredited schools that offer programs in Surgical Technology. Only schools that provide job placement assistance to graduates were included in our listings.
